Locale: the smartest app in the world?

One of the advantages of Android is the fact that developers are allowed to interact with multiple areas of the hardware. This can cause problems with stability, but it can also lead to some stunning innovation that completely changes the way you use your phone or tablet.

Locale is perhaps the best example of an app that can affect your life in many ways and it really can take away the majority of your mobile tasks during each day. To quickly describe it, the app can produce set actions based on a number of indicators such as time, location and state. This sounds complex, but it really isn’t and if you spend some time setting things up, you will reap the benefits in the long run.

Here are some examples-

You have a meeting at 10am and your Android phone automatically switches to silent based on the calendar entry. It will switch back when the meeting ends.

You get home and the phone automatically switches to airplane mode based on your location.

Wake up in the morning, alarm sounds and your latest Podcasts will be downloaded based in the time.

Seriously, all of this is possible and it works perfectly most of the time. The plug-ins available increase the flexibility further and in theory you can do almost anything you like with Locale if you are prepared to take the time to tailor it to your needs.

It all sounds like something from science fiction, but it really is happening now and you can jump on board whenever you like. All you need is an Android device and the money to pay for the app, which is not a lot when you consider the benefits it will offer you.
